The Swift will use its electric motor with its 0.7L engine to give out a total of 75 horsepower.  The car manufacturer will collect vital performance data when the test units hit the roads of Japan. Suzuki claims that the Swift can go all electric for 0 miles and will be able to go 61 miles for every gallon of fuel.

Sanyo, in a separate report, disclosed that they will supply the lithium ion batteries for the Swift. The company has been manufacturing nickel metal hydride cells for Honda and Ford since 2004.

Sanyo is also collaborating with PSA Peugeot Citroen and Volkswagen AG to develop the next gen lithium ion and nickel metal hydride batteries.

Suzuki is having a good year as it improved its sales figures to around 2.35 million units as of March 2010. The brand also has an excellent fuel economy numbers compared to other car brands but it is a bit late in terms of the race for developing a hybrid electric vehicle.

Suzuki sold about 20% of its shares to Volkswagen for about $2.5 billion. VW benefits with the small car technologies of Suzuki while the Japanese brand takes advantage of the electric and hybrid technologies of German carmaker.

Just last February, Ghosn was also the one to announce the French car giant’s three billion euros worth of losses. Apparently, 2009 wasn’t such a kind year for Renault, with half of its losses coming from subsidiaries. The company’s sales dropped to 10.8% last year, and despite the car manufacturer’s wish to pay off its debt, it must be remembered that they have also foreseen 2010 to be just as tough on them.

Ghosn said that Renault only increased its shares in the world market, which is why it was able to retain any positive cash flow despite the state of the European economy. 2010 can pose another challenge, though, with a much-needed European sales offensive they still need to work on. Carlos Ghosn is positive that the firm will be able to strengthen its post-crisis efforts.

Renault’s Chief Executive also promised to bounce back with six models breaking through the mass market of zero-emission vehicles by 2011. The Renault Group is currently allied with the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan, and it owns a number of marquees all over the globe.
